Shortly after doubt was cast over the venue of the German Grand Prix, Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed that the race is now intended for Hockenheim.
“It’s going to be at Hockenheim” revealed Ecclestone in an interview with Reuters.com on Thursday morning.
“We’re in the middle of doing something with [Hockenheim]. It can’t be Nürburgring because there’s nobody there.”
The Grand Prix was due to be held at the Nürburgring this year however the circuit CEO, Mr Carsten Schumacher, looked for a less expensive contract to host F1 races amid financial struggles.
The F1 calendar does not currently show a venue for the German Grand Prix on the 19th July. Ecclestone also explained that the Nürburgring may still host alternate German Grand Prix in the future. “We just have to amend the years of the contract” explained F1’s Supremo.
