Mercedes executive director, Toto Wolff admits that a Ferrari win is good for Formula 1 after Sebastian Vettel won the Scuderia’s first since the 2013 Spanish grand prix.

Wolff told Sky Sports F1 “You cannot expect that you are going to win races forever and we are here to extract the maximum performance,”

“It was a good day for Formula 1, not such a perfect day for Mercedes, but we will come back stronger.”

Mercedes’ title sponsor, Petronas, sponsor the Malaysian Grand Prix. The German outfit would no doubt have wanted to win the race however the team have been gracious in defeat.

“It is going to make us work harder and concentrate even more. The recovery they have made over the winter is incredible and you have to honour that as a racer.”

Vettel overtakes Rosberg for second place in the drivers’ championship and lies just three points from the leader, Lewis Hamilton.
