McLaren driver Fernando Alonso has denied speculation he would be leaving McLaren at the end of 2015 by saying he will be driving for the Woking-based team until the end of 2017.

In the FIA drivers’ press conference, Alonso was asked to clarify a series of tweets he sent out after the Japanese Grand Prix.

Asked if he will remain with the team in 2016 he replied: “and ’17…”

The Spaniard was also asked about his various outbursts during the Japanese Grand Prix. The two-time champion admits it was not his first outburst of the season.

“I’m happy that it was only broadcast in Suzuka,” he said, “because if you hear all the races, all the radio messages – from me or from Jenson or from whatever – you will be even more surprised.”

McLaren confirmed last week that Jenson Button will drive for the team in 2016 despite recent speculation linking the 2009 world champion with a move to the World Endurance Championships.
