Force India aiming to secure fifth in Brazil

Force India are hoping to secure fifth position in the constructors’ championship this weekend in Brazil.

Force India currently sit fifth in the constructors’ championship, 41 points ahead of sixth-placed team Lotus. If they outscore Lotus by three points in Brazil this weekend, they would secure their highest finish in the constructors’ championship ever.

Since the introduction of the teams b-spec car at the British Grand Prix in July, Force India have performed strongly, only failing to score points on one occasion and scoring one podium finish in Russia, courtesy of Sergio Perez.

Team principal Vijay Mallya says Force India’s target this weekend is to secure fifth and bring home a solid points finish.

“We travel to Brazil off the back of a memorable and successful weekend in Mexico. Everybody I spoke to said how much they enjoyed the event and the warm welcome we received. It was a race where we maximised our opportunities to bring both cars home well inside the points and edge closer to securing fifth place in the championship.

“With just two races to go, we must keep our focus and make sure we don’t let our guard down so close to the finish line. If we score well in Brazil, we can clinch fifth place in the championship and that’s the priority. I’m confident we can do it and getting both cars home in the points would be a great way to celebrate our best season ever.”

Force India’s best result at the Brazilian Grand Prix came in 2012 where Nico Hulkenberg finished fifth. The German had been battling McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton for the victory, but the pair collided at turn one allowing Jenson Button to take the victory ahead of the Ferrari duo of Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa.
