The addition of a Formula One sprint race could be seen during the 2017 Formula One season if an agreement is reached at the meeting on Friday according to F1i.com.
The inclusion of a sprint race has long been discussed in Formula One with it already part of each GP2 and GP3 race weekend. The proposed idea would involve beginning qualifying for the Sunday race earlier on Saturday, most likely in the morning with the sprint race taking place in the afternoon when qualifying would usually be scheduled. As well as the discussion about a sprint race the meeting will also look at how qualifying can be improved, we have not seen a change in the qualifying structure since 2006.
Most of the discussion scheduled to take place on Friday will centre around how Formula One can be improved to help the marketing and accessibility of Formula One to the masses. It’s hard to say whether they will achieve this but if all parties involve come to a decision that benefits the sport we will be going in the right direction.
