Marcus Ericsson has had a tough day stepping into his new Sauber C35 for the first time after finding himself in a couple of issues in the second day of the second test in Barcelona.
After suffering technical problems and going off track at turn four with a wheel missing, he did manage to set a lap time of 1:27.487, which was only 11th in the timesheets, in a fairly low number of 55 laps.
It does mean that the team only currently have a total of only 158 laps with the C35 with the car only being given four days of testing.
After the session, Ericsson was disappointed to have missed some running in their quest to develop the new car: “It was a difficult day, which was very much compromised, especially in the morning, by issues on the technical side. And late in the afternoon, in turn four, I felt something strange at the right rear, which made me lose control of the car. Therefore we didn’t complete as many laps as we wanted to.
However, the Swede wrote this off as one of the normal hiccups in ironing out a new car: “We were still able to do some useful running, with longer stints in the afternoon, which was good for me to get a feel for the new car for the first time. However, sometimes this sort of thing happens with a new car when testing. Let’s look forward to the next time I test on day four.”
Felipe Nasr is set to come back into the car for his final run of testing before Ericsson ends the team’s testing programme on Friday.
