Both Ferrari customer teams will get the updated turbocharger from the British Grand Prix onwards, three races after the works team introduced the engine development.
Haas team boss Gunther Steiner confirmed ahead of the European Grand Prix that his team would get the engine upgrade in Silverstone.
The upgrade, which used two of Ferrari’s six remaining tokens, was a step forward according to both works drivers, who have been using the updated engine since the Canadian Grand Prix.
“You always can use more power but again, if you’re not quite prepared it’s better not to have it,” Steiner told Autosport.
“So the plan at the moment is to have the upgrade for Silvertone for us.”
It has now been revealed that Sauber will also be using the upgrade from Silverstone, as well as introducing minor aero updates. Haas also hopes to bring updates to the British track, but the developments aren’t certain yet.
Sauber have been struggling with cash flow problems, meaning development of the car has been stunted due to available funds. The team is in talks to bring in new sponsors, but team boss Monisha Kaltenborn says the positive finish at the European Grand Prix boosted moral within the team.
