Daniil Kvyat has criticised Renault driver Kevin Magnussen for hampering his final Q2 lap in qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
The Toro Rosso driver had just squeezed into Q2 with a late improvement and was on course to make it into Q3, however, was blocked by Magnussen going into the final couple of corners meaning the Russian was only 15th fastest.
The stewards deemed Magnussen not at fault hence why the Dane was not awarded a penalty.
“I think I was coming up on a very good lap and the best of the session for sure, and I don’t know, he was five seconds off his lap time and he just stayed in front of me. It started from Becketts and I lost downforce behind him, I thought he would let me by on the hangar straight but he didn’t move over and I did the last four corners behind him.

“I lost a lot of my lap time it’s a real shame. I personally respect other drivers in qualifying and I move over, and when I don’t sometimes when I don’t see them I am very sorry. He just blocked me.”
The Russian believes he could have joined Toro Rosso teammate Carlos Sainz in Q3 had he not been held up by Magnussen.
“I think it would have been very close or just inside. It would have been nice to see the real lap because it was nice, Q1 started off a bit scrappy then it started to get better and better, then when it really mattered the lap was starting to come really nicely and then we meet this Magnussen and got blocked. Yeah I was happier with Q2 I found my rhythm and it’s getting much better, these are much positive signs.”
