Lewis Hamilton say’s he’s as happy as he can be after winning his home Grand Prix for a third consecutive year.

The reigning world champion mastered the tricky conditions to close in on teammate Nico Rosberg’s championship lead, cutting the gap to just four points.

Despite a few hairy moments out on track, Hamilton kept his cool to win by almost seven seconds, recording his 47th career victory to leave him just four behind Alain Prost.

“I don’t know if you can be as happy as me, but I’m so happy,” he said after the race.

“On the lap to the grid it was dry, but then all of a sudden it rained, and it was so tricky in those conditions.

“When we started the race I was the first to attack it, so I tried not to make mistakes. But it’s what I love about this race, it’s never plain-sailing, and it’s why it’s the best Grand Prix we have.

“I’m catching up to [Rosberg], so let’s keep going.”

The home crowd go home jubilant after watching Hamilton take another win on home soil and the Brit took time to pay tribute for their incredible support over his racing career.

“Ever since [debuting in] 2007 I’ve felt this incredible energy from the fans; they’re the best crowd that we have anywhere [on the Formula 1 calendar].”
