Jenson Button will prepare to start his 300th Grand Prix start this weekend in Malaysia, after a lengthy career that he has had in Formula One making his first appearance for Williams at the 2000 Australian Grand Prix, he has since won 15 races, taken eight pole positions and had no less than 50 appearances on the podium and of course the 2009 world championship.
After 17 years of racing in Formula One, Button will be taking a sabbatical after this season has finished to take some time off to take a break from the gruelling world of Formula One.
Speaking ahead of the Malaysia Grand Prix on this milestone, Button said: “I’m ready and excited to get out there and start my 300th Grand Prix, and hopefully have better luck than I did in Singapore.”
The F1 circus heads to the hot and humid Sepang Circuit which Button expects to not suit the strengths of the McLaren MP4-31.
“Sepang is becoming a modern classic – although it’s a relatively new circuit, it’s one of those tracks that drivers enjoy going back to. The conditions are like nothing else we experience, the circuit is quite technical and fun to drive, and the atmosphere is always great. Although it’s traditionally seen as a high-speed circuit which isn’t usually something that our package favours, we do have a good car under braking which is necessary to handle the tight corners after the long, fast straights.”
McLaren racing director Eric Boullier congratulated Button ahead of his 300th GP start.
“I’d like to congratulate Jenson on his 300th Grand Prix start – a spectacular achievement for a great world champion, and we look forward to celebrating this incredible milestone with him and the team this weekend.”
