After taking his seventh win of the 2016 season in the United States Grand Prix, Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton has become only the third driver in Formula One history to reach 50 Grand Prix wins.
The British driver joins Michael Schumacher (91) and Alain Prost (51) in achieving the honour.
Hamilton, 31, is the youngest driver to make it to 50 wins and has also done it in the shortest space of time, achieving it during his tenth season of racing.
Prost was the first driver to reach 50 victories, then an all-time record for the most wins in the sport, at the 1993 British Grand Prix. This was in his 13th and final season in the sport at Williams at the age of 38.
Michael Schumacher reached the 50 mark at the age of 32 at the 2001 French Grand Prix for Ferrari in his 11th season racing.
Hamilton still holds the record for winning a race in every season in which he has competed, and with his most recent triumph becomes the first driver since Schumacher between 2000-2002 to win seven races in three consecutive seasons (2014, 2015 and 2016).
