Hamilton: You have to fight to the bitter end

Lewis Hamilton believes that his previous experience of fighting for championships has given him the belief to fight to the bitter end with just two races left to go of the 2016 season.

Having lost the title in the final two races of 2007 and nearly losing the 2008 title in the final laps, it shows that never giving up is something he knows how to do.

Should Nico Rosberg win at the Brazilian GP this weekend, however, the title will be out of reach and the German becomes champion regardless of where Hamilton finishes.

Having never won at Interlagos before in nine previous attempts, this is one duck the Briton needs to be broken if he wants a chance of taking the title fight down to Abu Dhabi.

“One outcome would be painful and the other would be a great achievement. Hamilton said.”

“Regardless, I’m going to keep pushing. Since the beginning of my Formula One career, I’ve seen that everything can change even at the very last moment, so you have to fight to the bitter end. I’ve never won in Brazil, so I go into this weekend focused on changing that.”

Having come close to victory once before at the 2012 event, where he and Nico Hulkenberg collided at Turn 1 in tricky conditions, the triple world champion has shown the speed to win in Sao Paulo but circumstances have often led to disappointing results.

Having shown great pace in recent races and closed the gap to Rosberg, Hamilton must continue this run of form if he wants to prevent or at least delay his teammate becoming world champion.

“It’s a great feeling when you’re able to show the kind of pace I’ve shown at the past two races. Everyone has worked so hard and the car has really been faultless,” Lewis added.

The speed has been there all season – I just haven’t always had the opportunity to take advantage of it. In terms of the championship, it’s an unusual scenario to be in – fighting for something and not knowing for sure that what you do will guarantee you’re able to make it.”
