Spanish Moto2 debutante Jorge Navarro’s 2017 preparations have been put on hold until next year after he suffered a dislocated left shoulder during pre-season testing in Valencia.
Navarro has had problems with his left shoulder dislocating all season, and had planned to have surgery to rectify the issue in December. The Spaniard had just returned to the Ricardo Tormo Circuit following a positive start to his test, and under braking for Turn 8 felt his left shoulder dislocate.
He was forced off track into the gravel trap and was unable to keep his Gresini Kalex upright. Thankfully, he didn’t do any further damage but will not be present for the second day of testing tomorrow and won’t ride his Gresini Moto2 challenger again until the first pre-season test on March 9.
“The test was already going very well; we had just made a change to the bike set-up and I was feeling at ease, then under braking at Turn 8 I felt the dislocation of my left shoulder,” said Navarro.
“I ended up in the run-off area, and when I arrived on the gravel it was difficult to keep control of the bike because I had no strength and I went down, but without consequences. I have already accused this problem several times during the season because of an old injury. In fact, I had already planned a surgery next December 1. Unfortunately the problem emerged also today and I’m very sorry because I won’t be able to continue the test.
“Now I look forward to the surgery in order to recover as soon as possible, and resume in the best possible way my adaptation to this category.”
Navarro isn’t the only Moto3 graduate heading for his Christmas holiday early. 2016 Moto3 World Champion Brad Binder was taken to hospital in Barcelona for treatment on a broken arm today after a heavy crash in Valencia.
