The European Formula 3 is a popular step for many young drivers trying to make it to Formula One, and Ferdinand Habsburg is no different. The 19-year-old hopes his time in the championship will help him make a name for himself in his journey to F1.
After competing in the Spanish F3 and the Eurformula Open with Fortec and Drivex School over the past two years, Habsburg expects a challenge taking the step up to the European series with a top team. Even so, the Austrian is aiming for wins as he grows as a driver.
“Our aim will be the same as always, try to win as much as possible and improve as a driver,” Habsburg told Read Motorsport. “Joining a team like Carlin also means I need to up my game and make sure my consistency is good. This will need to be the biggest improvement.”

Alongside his F3 commitments, Habsburg will continue in the Toyota Racing Series. Last season, he finished fourth in the championship with two race wins to his name. The 2017 season is now three races in and, with three consistent finishes, he’s fourth in the championship again.
With a year racing Toyotas already under his belt, Habsburg expects the F3 championship to be his toughest series this year, butt he knows both series will pose their own challenges.
“I have been [in Toyota] before and I know the tracks and the car,” he said. “Also, the competition isn’t as high as the F3 field. On the other hand, the F3 car suits me very well and I feel very comfortable in it. I feel confident going into both championships.”
