Pedro Piquet is aiming to be a regular front runner in his second season in the European Formula 3 championship with Van Amersfoort.

Piquet took the Brazilian Formula 3 title two seasons in a row before making his European racing debut last year. The Brazilian took five points finishes last season on his way to 19th in the championship, with a best finish of sixth during a wet race at Spa.

With a year’s experience now under his belt, Piquet’s hoping to finish a little higher.

“I adapted to my new life in Europe very quickly and after my first full season I now have a lot more experience and know the tracks,” he said. “Together with Van Amersfoort Racing it is my ambition to be a regular front runner in the FIA F3 European Championship.”

Van Amersfoort are also optimistic about the teenager’s chances.

“Pedro developed his speed and skills continuously during the last year,” said team founder and principal Frits van Amersfoort. “With the full season 2016 in his bag I am confident that Pedro will be able to stand out this forthcoming season. Our team will do everything to guide him towards strong results.”

If Piquet’s winter is anything to go by, he may be able to achieve that aim. Since the end of the last F3 season, the teenager has been competing in the Toyota Racing Series, finishing second in the championship with three race wins.

Piquet is the second driver to be confirmed for Van Amersfoort so far. He’ll be racing alongside David Beckmann, who has made the switch from his 2016 team Mucke Motorsport.
