GP3 driver and Dare to be Different ambassador Tatiana Calderon has joined Sauber as a development driver for the 2017 Formula 1 season.

The 23-year-old will take part in simulator work and will be coached by the team’s staff during certain race weekends as part of her role.

Calderon made her debut in GP3 during 2016 for Arden, becoming the first woman to score two points finishes after finishing 10th in the German and Italian sprint races.

Sauber has also announced that she will return to F1’s feeder series in 2017.

The Colombian said that she appreciated the chance to work with the team to learn throughout the year.

“I am extremely happy to join the Sauber F1 team as a development driver,” she said.

“I want to thank Monisha Kaltenborn and the whole team for giving me this opportunity, and also Escuderia Telmex for their support.

“I am grateful to be working with such an established F1 team and to benefit from its long experience.

“I look forward to working with the team and learning as much as I can. It is a step closer to my dream – one day competing in F1.”
