Valtteri Bottas helped the Mercedes W08 pass the 2500km mark after a problematic electrical issue hampered Mercedes morning on the final day of the first test.

Lewis Hamilton was scheduled to go out in the morning session, however an electrical fault with the power unit meant the Briton didn’t make it onto the track.

Thursday was due to be a designated wet tyre test by Pirelli in order to trial the new intermediate and wet compound tyres, however when Bottas did make it out on track, the track had dried up.

“Unfortunately the day was a little bit shorter than we were hoping for but overall it has been a very good four days for us in Barcelona.

“As a team we really made the most out of this week- we’ve done a lot of mileage and I learned a lot.”

After only completing nine laps before the lunch break, Bottas was quickly back out on track after the break to put another 59 laps on the W08.

Both the extreme wet and intermediate tyres were used by the Finn for the first time since the tyre dimensions were changed for the 2017 season.

“Today we did some good running on the extreme wets and the intermediate tyres, before crossing over to the slicks.

“It was interesting to test in the damp track conditions and we got some very useful information about the intermediate tyre.

“We ended the day completing long runs on the slicks, to build up our understanding of the tyres ahead of Melbourne.”
