Pecco Bagnaia’s blistering start to his Moto2 career continued, as the Italian took first position in his second ever practice session in the class.
The Sky VR46 rider took the lead late on in the session with a 2m00.793s, snatching top spot away from Honda Team Asia’s Takaaki Nakagami by just eight hundredths of a second.
They were in no danger from Tom Luthi, who crashed out of the session after leading throughout. He still has the pace to compete, however, after dominating FP1, his 2m00.422 from the opening session keeping him top on the combined standings.
Behind Nakagami was class rookie Fabio Quartararo, who joins the championship with Pons Racing after a dismal 2016 in Moto3. The aforementioned Luthi slipped to fourth at the chequered flag, whilst Forward Racing’s Luca Marini impressed in fifth.

Alex Marquez, looking to finally show the fans what he can do, ended the evening in sixth on his Marc VDS Kalex. Lorenzo Baldasarri, Xavier Simeon and Marcel Schrotter finished behind Marquez, in seventh, eighth and ninth respectively. Miguel Oliveria, riding the new KTM chassis, rounded out the top ten.
Danny Kent is now the only British interest in this class. The Briton lost most of the first session to a mechanical issue, but thankfully had no such woes in FP2. The Kiefer Racing rider ended the evening 13th on his Suter.
FP3 for the Moto2 riders gets underway tomorrow 16:55 GMT.
