Ferrari has brought the fight back to Mercedes, with Sebastian Vettel topping the final test before qualifying, beating the all-time track record in the process.
The session ended early when Williams’ Lance Stroll crashed into the wall with ten minutes until the scheduled end of the session. The rookie hit the wall side on at turn 10 after losing the right rear, bringing out the red flag.
Vettel set the pace early in the session on ultrasoft tyres. The German was able to put in a second stint later in the session and improved to 1m23.380s before the red flag.
The Mercedes drivers were only able to put in a single stint on the ultrasoft tyres. Lewis Hamilton may have dominated the day yesterday, but it was Valtteri Bottas who was the fastest of the pair.
Hamilton was a fraction of a second slower than his team-mate, finishing the session third fastest, but appeared to have made a mistake in the second sector of his final lap. The red flag stopped the team from any last moment flying laps.
