Callum Ilott made it two for two at the Red Bull Ring as the Prema driver topped the timings on the final day of preseason testing.
Ilott dominated the times in the morning session, leading undisturbed for the majority of the session. The Brit beat the time he had set yesterday in the morning session, lowering the bar to 1m22.950s. It was a time that wouldn’t be beaten in the afternoon session.
It was llott’s team-mate, Maximilian Gunther, to top the times in the afternoon session. The German had a fairly anonymous morning, with a time just two tenths of a second slower than Ilott’s, but improved in the afternoon. With less than an hour to go before the chequered flag, Gunther rose to the top of the timing screen with a time just a tenth of a second off what Ilott had set in the morning.
He finished the day second overall.
Jake Hughes and Joel Eriksson finished the day third and fourth fastest, both setting their times in the morning session.
Like Gunther, Harrison Newey set his fastest time in the afternoon session. The Van Amersfoort driver had a quiet morning, completing only 35 laps – only a handful compared to the 58 of Ilott or the 66 of Keyvan Andres Soori, who completed the most laps of the Red Bull Ring in the morning.
The afternoon was a little busier for Newey. The Brit topped the times about an hour into the session before Gunther knocked him off of the top spot.
Van Amersfoort’s Joey Mawson was the fastest rookie of the day, ninth fastest overall.
The final day at the Red Bull Ring concludes preseason testing.
