Sauber has confirmed Pascal Wehrlein will return to the cockpit for the Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix after spending two races on the sidelines due to being unfit.
After an accident in January’s Race Of Champions in Miami, Wehrlein suffered back injuries as his Polaris slingshot barrel-rolled after colliding with Felipe Massa car on the other side of the track as their race finished.
Despite having recovered well and completing some mileage in the second pre-season test after being passed medically fit by doctors, Wehrlein withdrew himself from the Australian Grand Prix after Friday practice as he felt he was not fit enough to complete a full race distance.

Since his withdrawal, Ferrari’s reserve driver Antonio Giovinazzi has been filling in for Wehrlein, finishing in 12th place in Australia.
His second outing in China was not as successful after he crashed out in both qualifying and the race.
After such an impressive start to Giovinazzi’s performances in the car after being unexpectedly being given the call-up, Wehrlein could well be under pressure to perform given the Italian’s performances.
It is unconfirmed whether Giovinazzi would still be available to Sauber should Wehrlein still feel unfit to compete.
