A strong recovery couldn’t put Ferdinand Habsburg in the points after a disappointing start to the second European Formula 3 race of the weekend.
The Austrian fell to the back of the pack after starting on the damp side of the track and suffered even further trouble after making contact with a team mate.
“I think I recovered well on the first lap,” Habsburg told Read Motorsport. “I was going back where I started. The car was really quick, and then something that should never happen happened which is team mates touched. I ended up on the grass.
“I dropped back to last but the car was still amazing, so I fought through the pack again.”
Habsburg eventually finished the race 13th, adding to the 12th he took in yesterday’s race, but he believes the car is capable of better results if he can improve in qualifying.
“I think the goal should just be to qualify better, and then this won’t happen,” he said. “Just making sure that we can nail the laps in qualifying.
“Further back, everybody is desperate to make up spaces, and that’s where the risk takers are.”
Though there is still a race to go tomorrow, Habsburg is looking forward to Monza at the end of the month, a track he hopes will suit him better.
