Lando Norris will be focusing on his starts in Monza after two frustrating races at Silverstone.
The rookie took the win in the opening race of the weekend, only for poor starts to ruin any chances of repeating the victory.
“I’ve got to focus on my starts,” he told Read Motorsport. “That’s a big thing. To be honest, I did quite a bit of that, but I’ve just got to be more focused and do what my team mates did.”
Norris was able to pull away from pole in race one, but a wet track in race two meant he dropped back through the pack. The Brit isn’t using that as an excuse, though.
“It was completely wet on the right, bone dry on the left. That’s not an ideal way to start,” he said. “Still, my start wasn’t great yesterday and today was not great either, so that’s something to work on.”
After dropping back to fourth, Norris set about recovering, but he would only take back one position.
“When I was behind Joel [Eriksson], I didn’t make any effort to try to attempt an overtake,” he said. “I used too much of my tyres when I was behind Maxi [Gunther] and I really tried to maximise the speed I had then hoping, once I got past, I would be able to catch Eriksson. I did but, as soon as I got close I lost too much downforce and I wasn’t able to overtake.”
Norris leaves Silverstone third in the overall championship and top of the rookies. His race starts may not be up to scratch, but his championship start is definitely one he’ll be happy with.
