Pierre Gasly is expected to replace Sebastien Buemi for the New York ePrix, if Buemi cannot make the event.
Buemi is currently to miss the Formula E double header due to his World Endurance Championship commitments. Renault e.dams is understood to be trying to come to an arrangement with Toyota, Buemi’s WEC team, to allow the points leader to attend the New York races.
If an arrangement cannot be found, Gasly is set to step in for Buemi. The Red Bull Junior raced with Jean-Paul Driot’s DAMS team to the GP2 title last season and is currently competing in the Super Formula.
He was not Renault’s first choice. The team approached Scott Speed earlier this month, but his Global Rallycross team Andretti blocked the move.
It’s understood Red Bull has already given the all-clear for Gasly to make his FE debut.
Renault is expected to confirm its New York line up later this month.
