The delayed update to the Hungaroring’s facilities will begin after next year’s Hungarian Grand Prix.

The venue has received roughly £103 million in the form of state support to complete the work on facilities, many of which have not been upgraded since the first GP back in 1986.

“We have a plan now,” Hungaroring President and CEO Zsolt Gyulay told Autosport at last weekend’s GP. “The government has decided.

“The minister [of foreign affairs and trade, Peter Szijjarto] has said it’s guaranteed, it’s 100% sure. It was delayed, because we wanted to start in January, but this is government.

“At the end of August, we’ll start making the architectural designs. My plan is that we can start the rebuild at the end of 2018 until 2019.”

First on the to do list will be rebuilding the grandstands and public areas. Gyulay claims the new grandstands will be like a modern stadium, and hold more seats.

Step two, which is due to begin in 2020, will be the construction of a new race control and pit lane complex.

There are also plans for a visitors centre and museum.
