Jake Hughes triumphed in a wet European Formula 3 qualifying session at the Nurburgring.
After finishing second in the opening race of the weekend, Hughes beat Callum Ilott and Lando Norris to pole with a 1m37.002s lap on his final attempt.
The HitechGP driver spent most of the session at the sharp end of the timings, but Hughes was also one of a number of drivers that fell foul of the slippery conditions in Germany.
Ilott was second fastest, three tenths of a second behind Hughes and a tenth of a second faster than race one winner Norris. The Prema Powerteam driver claimed pole for race three, based on second fastest laps, ahead of Norris and Hughes.
Tadasuke Makino was fourth fastest, followed by Ferdinand Habsburg, Ralf Aron, and Guanyu Zhou.
Joey Mawson started the session strong, but fell down the order as others improved and is set to start the second race of the weekend eighth.
Norris’ title rivals Maximilian Gunther and Joel Eriksson could only manage 15th and 17th respectively.
Max Deforny, the best of those making their European F3 debut this weekend, was ninth fastest, with Harrison Newey rounding out the top 10.
