Canadian racer Devlin DeFrancesco will join Carln’s European Formula 3 line-up for the remainder of the season.
DeFrancesco, who has been racing in the Euroformula Open this year, replaces Ameya Vardyanathan as Carlin returns to a four-car team after Sacha Fenestraz’s one-off outing at the Nurburgring.
He’s hoping for strong results this weekend, despite never racing at the Austrian Red Bull Ring.
“I’m really excited for this opportunity to race in the final two rounds of the Formula 3 European Championship,” he said.
“It’s going to be a big challenge for my first weekend in the series, however also a good experience for me. I’m aiming for points from this weekend – I’ll be fighting hard for good results and looking for a successful weekend.”
DeFrancesco is currently fourth in the Euroformula standings with three rounds remaining. The 17-year-old has so far taken four podiums but is yet to take a race win this season.
“It’s great to have Devlin on board with us in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship,” team boss Trevor Carlin said.
“He is an extremely passionate racer and puts his all into everything he races – which he will no doubt do again this weekend in Austria. He’s growing as a driver and coming into his own in the Euroformula Open CHampionship, especially having secured a double podium last time out at Silverstone, so we know that he will be racing hard out there as he makes his debut in FIA Formula 3.”
Before moving to the Euroformula championship, DeFrancesco build experience in the Italian F4 with Mucke Motoresport and British F4 with Carlin. He took three wins in Britain and was fighting for the championship in the closing stages of the season.
