Joel Eriksson claimed his fifth European Formula 3 win of the season as Lando Norris extended his championship lead ahead of Maximilian Gunther.

The reigning rookie champion took the victory less than a second ahead of rookie champion-elect Norris, who’s sixth second-place of the season locks Eriksson and Callum Ilott out of the title fight with just four races remaining.

After pulling away from the rest of the field at the start of the race, Norris kept close to Eriksson, but could never close the gap enough to threaten for the lead.

Behind them, Nikita Mazepin held off early attacks from Ilott to take his second podium of the season. Ilott’s fourth-place drops him to fourth in the title fight, 11 points behind Eriksson.

Jehan Daruvala and Ralf Aron finished fifth and sixth ahead of Jake Hughes.

Ferdinand Habsburg had been set to finish eighth after a strong defense against Maximilian Gunther. The Carlin driver shook off Gunther and closed in on Hughes, but ran wide on the final lap of the race, dropping to 10th. Gunther finished eighth, but only after winning a battle against Joey Mawson for the position.

Gunther’s eighth-place puts him 84 points behind Norris with only 100 points still available.
