Carlin’s Sergio Sette Camara has been disqualified from second place in the Formula 2 sprint race in Azerbaijan as a result of failing to provide a fuel sample.

Camara led the majority of the race after taking the lead at the start of the second lap. He was later caught by ART Grand Prix’s George Russell, who made the race-winning overtake with four laps remaining.

Unable to fight back, Camara finished second to take his third podium in four races. However, his Carlin stopped on track after running out of fuel during the lap back to the pits.

With the tank empty, the stewards could not take the required 0.8kg fuel sample from the car during post-race scrutineering. Camara has subsequently been disqualified from the race as a result.

Nyck de Vries, who initially finished third has been promoted to second, while Nicholas Latifi is subsequently classified on the podium, despite crossing the line fourth.

Prior to his disqualification, Camara had reduced Lando Norris’s championship lead to just one point.

Norris’s lead is now restored to 14 points, from Azerbaijan feature race winner Alexander Albon in second and Camara a further point behind in third.
