H2: WRC 2027 TV Coverage: Instant Direct Answer
The BBC will show World Rally Championship action live in Great Britain from 2027, under a new three-year agreement with the WRC that runs through the 2029 season. It brings free-to-air rallying back to British screens after a long absence from network television. Coverage starts with the 2027 season, so no live WRC broadcasts on the BBC are expected before then.
The package includes one-hour highlights of every round, selected live stages including each rally’s final Power Stage, and four full days of extensive live coverage when Rally Scotland joins the calendar. BBC Scotland, BBC Cymru Wales and BBC Northern Ireland will produce the UK coverage jointly, alongside digital content across BBC platforms. Full terms of the agreement are set out in the BBC WRC deal details.
This is a fantastic addition to our sports portfolio with teams across Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland coming together to bring audiences one of the world’s most thrilling motorsport championships.
“The World Rally Championship combines elite sporting competition with dramatic locations and compelling stories, making it a natural fit for the BBC.
“The return of Rally Scotland to the WRC calendar is particularly exciting and we look forward to capturing all the thrills and excitement for audiences when it kicks off next year.
That is Rhuanedd Richards, BBC Nations Director, explaining why the corporation moved to secure the rights.
H2: International WRC Broadcast Matrix & Region Guide
The confirmed part of this deal covers Great Britain, and the BBC has built its plans around the nations that make up the UK audience. Below is what has actually been agreed, broadcaster by broadcaster, rather than a guess at global arrangements that have not been announced.
| Nation | BBC Partner | Coverage Role |
|---|---|---|
| England (UK network) | BBC network output | Round highlights, selected live stages, digital content |
| Scotland | BBC Scotland | Lead production for Rally Scotland’s four days of live coverage |
| Wales | BBC Cymru Wales | Joint production partner across the season |
| Northern Ireland | BBC Northern Ireland | Joint production partner across the season |
Great Britain: viewers get the fullest package on offer. Every round comes with an hour of highlights, and the BBC has confirmed selected live stages, always including the final Power Stage that decides each rally’s result. Rally Scotland gets special treatment, with four days of extensive live coverage reflecting its status as the biggest UK rallying event in years.
Outside Great Britain: no broadcaster names or streaming arrangements have been confirmed under this agreement. The deal, as announced, is specific to the BBC’s free-to-air coverage in Great Britain through 2029, and nothing has been said about arrangements beyond that window or beyond that territory. Supporters watching from other countries should follow their own national rights holders for confirmation, rather than assume the BBC package applies to them.
H2: How to Stream WRC Live Legally on BBC iPlayer
Alongside the linear broadcasts, BBC iPlayer is confirmed as part of the digital offering that runs across BBC platforms once the deal begins in 2027. That should let supporters catch highlights and selected live stages on mobile, tablet, smart TV and connected-device apps, in the same way other BBC sport coverage already works. Exact app functionality for WRC content will become clearer closer to the 2027 season.
Rally production has always leaned on fast-moving broadcast technology to keep pace with cars on gravel, tarmac and snow, a theme we picked up in our look at motorsport technology transfers between disciplines. The BBC’s nations-wide production model, sharing resources across Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, points to a coverage setup built for that demand.
Supporters should stick to official BBC channels and apps for live stages and highlights once coverage begins. Unofficial streams carry no guarantee of picture quality, no rights protection for the championship, and often expose viewers to unnecessary security risks. With a genuine free-to-air option confirmed for the first time in years, there is no need to look anywhere else.
H2: WRC Calendar Context & Scotland Return Summary
Rally Scotland’s return matters because it will be the first UK round of the WRC held since 2019. That gap explains much of the excitement behind the BBC deal, and why the broadcaster built four dedicated days of live coverage around it rather than treating it as just another round on the calendar.
Eric Boullier, WRC Promoter CEO, set out why the timing works for both sides.
Our partnership with the BBC marks an important step in our strategy to grow the WRC’s reach and visibility in the UK.
“The BBC is one of the country’s most trusted and influential media organisations, and its powerful combination of television, digital and social platforms gives us a unique opportunity to reconnect with existing rally fans while introducing the championship to a new generation.
“With Rally Scotland joining the calendar next year, the timing could not be better to strengthen the WRC’s presence in such an important and historic market for rallying.
The wider 2026 calendar has already been reshaped before any of this takes effect. The planned season finale in Saudi Arabia was cancelled because of the war in Iran, so Sardinia now closes out the 2026 championship, running from 1 to 4 October. That comes not long after the WRC’s calendar took in WRC’s return to Estonia earlier in the year, another sign of a season that has moved around more than usual.
None of that affects the BBC agreement itself, which is fixed to 2027 through 2029 regardless of how the current season plays out. But it does set the scene for Rally Scotland’s debut: a championship that has had to adapt its calendar under pressure, arriving in the UK for the first time since 2019 with a broadcaster fully committed to showing it.
